A pro series body
and a 100-400mm zoom has been used for the great majority of the images
captured. On occasion, a 24-105mm zoom has also been used along with a 15mm
fisheye and more recently a pocketable compact, which is always on
hand to record scenes around the grounds. A 100-400mm zoom is not ideal compared to a large prime. However, stopped down a bit the optics are more than sharp
enough even at 400mm to produce images that pass muster, as the series below
illustrates. The first frame shows Center Court, including the seat location where the illustration image was made.
The second frame captures two time slam winner Aussie Lleyton Hewitt serving
from the diagonally opposite far end of the court.
The camera is an 8 megapixel body and the
100-400mm zoom is at full extension. The capture is at ISO 500, exposure mode Tv set to 1/1000
sec with a resulting Av of f/8. A 1/1000 shutter speed freezes most
action but leaves a slight ball and racquet head blur,
imparting a sense of motion. The third frame is a 100% crop
illustrates resolution and image quality -- note that the links in the chain around Hewitt's neck are
visible. |
