It has been announced that the the US Federal Trade Commission requires that web authors disclose "their connection, if any, with the advertisers; and also reveal the receipt of free products and/or payments from the advertisers."

Since GrayFoxImages.com does not accept advertising this rule apparently does not apply. Nevertheless we are including a disclosure statement to fully state our relationship with the manufactureres and merchants of the photography gear and software mentioned on this site.

In a word: none!

We do at times provide comments on gear that we own and photography software that we use. However, this commentary strictly reflects our personal experiences as a photographer who buys gear and other accouterments "over the counter" from the usual merchants without any arrangement, financial or otherwise, with any manufacturer or merchant.

Non-Commercial

Images in the Gray Fox Images Portfolio are not available for purchase.  For me, photography is a hobby and a source of personal enjoyment. For that reason, portfolio photos are not offered for sale to the public.  On the other hand we do wish to support education and research, particularly as it relates to nature and wildlife preservation, conservation, environmental sustainability, public awareness and like purposes.  As a result, images in the Nature Portfolio may be made available at no cost to qualifying organizations on a one-time right-to-use basis for educational or scientific research purposes.    A full image rights statement may be found hereContact me if you are interested in use of an image for a related purpose.

Copyright and Fair Use Statement

Notice: All images and written material on this web site are 1999-2015 Michael W. Masters. All rights are reserved under US copyright laws. Images may not be downloaded or otherwise used without written permission of the artist. Written material may be quoted under fair use so long as attribution is given.

Further note that it is usually true that photography at historical and cultural sites, if permitted at all, is governed by legally binding guidelines.  Additionally, a distinction is normally made between personal use and commercial imaging.  Where photography is permitted for personal enjoyment commercial use of such images without prior written permission of the respective organization is strictly prohibited.  Viewers of this site are doubly forewarned that all Travel images on this web site are for personal enjoyment and should be assumed to be covered under this stricture.

Notes on Site Construction

Note for site viewers: Microsoft's Internet Explorer may place a yellow bar at the top of the browser window when GrayFoxImages.com loads. This bar states that MSIE "has restricted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls that could access your computer." This message is displayed because the menu buttons used for primary site navigation were built using Adobe's Image Ready, which uses Javascript to implement rollover state transitions. The MSIE message need not be disabled in order to fully view site content. The buttons, however, will not exihibit rollover effects.

This site is built using a variety of tools. The primary web authoring editor is Microsoft Expression Web.  The principal RAW conversion editor is Phase One's Capture One Pro.  After editing, the majority of images are converted directly to web-sized JPEGs and run through a customized set of automated actions in Photoshop.  These actions are designed to produce web images exhibiting my preferred look with a minimum of manual intervention, including a slight boost in saturation and contrast, a modest increment of sharpening, a drop shadow, and a copyright and signature mark customized in color and placement to the individual image.  Only problem images or images destined for printing are converted to TIFF and fully processed in Photoshop via a more complex and full featured set of actions.

Once a collection of images has been assembled they are run through a customized legacy Photoshop web generation template using the Photoshop automation feature.  This template has been extensively modified with GrayFoxImages specific attributes via added HTML code.  Recent versions of  Photoshop no longer deliver or run these templates, and unfortunately the contact sheets provided by recent Photoshop versions are not customizable.  However, the templates still run under older legacy versions of Photoshop, and the fact that they can be customized is a substantial benefit for those wishing to tailor a web site to fit a particular style.  The online site file structure is maintained with Filezilla.
