This section should properly be labeled Canoe
Creek Road since
Joe Overstreet is but one lake access road branching
off of Canoe Creek as it heads south from Kissimmee.
Others include Lake Cypress Road and a few less productive spurs
such as the Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area, as well as Canoe Creek
itself.
However, Joe Overstreet ends at Lake Kissimmee, and the
facilities there are, while not huge, substantially more spacious and
feature rich
than any other road.
Consequently, if one has to choose one road to spend time on, Joe
Overstreet is the one. The boat dock area and surrounding environs
provided several imaging opportunities, including as it turned
out, eagles, albeit immature ones.
But the road itself also provided opportunities as well.
One can find opportunities to capture images of
various passerine species all along the road, even on the fences and vegetation
bordering the road. In
fact, eastern
meadowlarks were so prevalent that I devoted a whole page to
them, especially to one tolerant bird that posed for fifteen or twenty
minutes. The only down side of this area is there just aren’t many good places to stay in Kissimmee, especially on the south side! If we ever go again, we’ll just leave early from Viera and make the 75 minute drive in the morning. |
